Egg Bread (Pretty Pope) Recipe

Egg Bread

The traditional method of using stale bread. A grandmother's recipe that turns breakfast into a feast. Enjoy your meal!

In a Nutshell:

Ingredients:

For: 6 People
Prep: 10 Min
Cook: 30 Min
Stale Bread 1   Qty
Egg 3   Qty
Milk 1   Half Cup
Flour 1   Rounded Tbsp
Fine Salt 1   Tsp
Black Pepper (Freshly Ground) 1   Tsp
Thyme 1   Tsp
Powdered Red Pepper (Pain On Demand) 1   Tsp
Sunflower Oil 1   Cup

Steps:

  1. Slice your bread 1, 1.5 cm thick without breaking it. (A finger thick) If you don't have stale bread, you can get the same result by leaving the sliced breads open for an hour in jadar.
  2. Whisk the milk, eggs and a single spoon of flour until you get a homogenized consistency. Add salt, red powdered pepper and any spices you want and mix.
  3. Take the oil in the pan and heat it. After making sure that the oil is hot, put it on medium heat. Dip the breads in the mixture and fry them by turning them upside down without waiting too long.
  4. You can put the toasted breads on a paper towel and serve them with any sweet or savory breakfast items without cooling them. Good luck!
  5. Note: You can make fake bread kadayıf by adding hot sherbet to your leftovers from breakfast and cold egg bread with one measure of sugar and one and a half measure of water.

  • Stale Bread: Stale bread is a valuable ingredient with a lower glycemic index than fresh bread. Starch retrogradation ensures slower blood sugar rise, prolonged satiety, and fiber for digestive health. It's budget-friendly and prevents waste. Ideal as croutons in soups, a binder in meatballs, or in desserts (e.g., bread pudding). It pairs well with dairy, spices, and vegetables.
  • Egg: Eggs are a highly bioavailable protein source, essential for muscle growth and repair. Rich in B12, Vitamin D, selenium, and choline, they support brain function, nervous system health, and energy production. Lutein and zeaxanthin pigments aid eye health, reducing the risk of age-related macular degeneration. Despite their cholesterol content, eggs typically don't adversely affect blood cholesterol in most healthy individuals. A breakfast staple, eggs pair wonderfully with various ingredients like cheese, spinach, mushrooms, avocado, and whole-wheat bread.
  • Milk: Milk is rich in calcium and Vitamin D, supporting bone and teeth health. Its high-quality protein content is crucial for muscle development. B vitamins (B2, B12) contribute to energy metabolism and support nervous system health. It also contains components that strengthen the immune system. It pairs wonderfully with coffee, cereals, fruits, honey, or cocoa. It forms an indispensable base for many sweet and savory recipes.
  • Sunflower Oil: Sunflower oil is a rich source of Vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant that protects cells against free radical damage. Its unsaturated fatty acid profile can support heart health and help lower bad cholesterol. It is widely preferred in the kitchen for frying, salad dressings, and baked goods.
